Australian Greek Welfare Society – AGWS Five-Year Strategic Plan 2008-2013

The vision of AGWS is to be a leading Australian-Greek community services agency in Australia. Over the past three decades AGWS has supported the Australian-Greek community through its purpose of empowering members of the Australian-Greek community to reach their full potential. This has been achieved through service provision, advocacy, policy development and research in an innovative, culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.

On 10 may 2008 the Board of Management, CEO and Unit managers participated in a facilitated strategic planning day to discuss the future direction of AGWS over the next five years and to explore the potential role of the organisation in the future.

The Australian-Greek community is an ageing community that currently presents a range of service challenges among them the availability of appropriate home care provided by local councils and permanent residential care. In 2015 the population of Australian-Greeks aged 75 and over will peak placing additional demands on the service system.

The strategic planning day commenced with participants’ perspectives on what they considered would be key issues for the Australian-Greek community in the year 2030 and how AGWS would need to evolve as an organisation in order to meet these needs. A report detailing the outcomes of the strategic planning day was prepared for the CEO, Board of Management and staff.
